Happy 2024 Alumni! We ended 2023 on a strong note and are ready to leap into the new year! We exceeded our goal of 20 new Life Memberships, and our goal of $20,000.00 in Alumni Classes’ Contributions to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. The “Wolf Pack” represents bravery, loyalty, protection, and wisdom. The Officers, Team Captains, along with you and your classmates have exemplified these qualities to ensure that we will continue to provide 20 scholarships to qualifying high school seniors in the Atlanta Public Schools as well as the Metropolitan Atlanta Area. 

 

We will present our 21st Annual Scholarship Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, March 23, 2024, starting at 9:30 am with the processional of the Golden Honorees (Class of 1974) at  the Georgia International Convention Center. This is also a momentous time for our 2nd graduating class (1954) who be celebrating their 70th Reunion.

 

This annual event allows us to highlight our Scholarship Recipients, New Life Members, Scroll of Remembrances, Green Light Recipients, Milestone Reunion Classes, and an opportunity to enjoy time with our former teachers and classmates. 

 

Breakfast Tickets are available for purchase now through Saturday, February 24, 2023, at $40.00 per person (Tables are $400.00 - Rounds of 10). 

 

Our Picnic on the Green is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024. Additional details coming soon.

Alumni Association Operational Year:

January to December of each calendar year. We will meet eight times during the year, on the third Saturday of the month from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Hunter Hill First Baptist Church, 166 Edwards, Street, NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30314. Our 2024 meeting dates are:

January 20th                September 21st

February 17th             October 19th

March 16th                  November 16th

April 20th                    December 21st

 

Alumni Courtesies

The Association will extend courtesies to financial alumni with illness and to the alumni’s family in case of transitioning. Please call the Alumni Office or Dorothy Swann with the information. We encourage individual classes to manage class courtesies. Keep all alumni, former staff, and their families in prayer. 

 

Alumni Dues

Alumni Dues are $60.00, paid annually by the third Saturday of February. A Membership Card will be issued upon receipt along with a copy of the current Constitution and By-Laws Handbook. 

 

Alumni Fundraiser(s)

The Annual Scholarship Prayer Breakfast is our main fundraising event; however, we are a part of the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Alumni must enroll each year, pickup enrollment information sheet at an alumni meeting. Also, alumni classes/members sponsoring any event under the Alumni name should inform the National Alumni Office by calling the National President at the number below.

 

Calling Post

Calling Post messages go out to our Team Captains, Current Financial Alumni, Life Members and Former Staff Members about Meetings, Important Dates, Urgent Updates and Transitioning of Alumni and/or Immediate Family Members.

 

Celebratory and Memorial Ads

We encourage members of the celebrating classes to solicit ads for our Annual Scholarship Prayer Breakfast Souvenir Journal. These camera-ready ads, photos and monies should be submitted to Paula Callahan Tucker at our Alumni Meetings or mailed to the Alumni Office by the deadline, address below.

 

Classes’ Annual Alumni Assessments

1. Class Charter Assessment - $100.00 by the third Saturday in February. To maintain your Alumni Class active status with the Association, each class must have five financial alumni members (Life and/or Regular Alumni Member) annually.

2. Picnic on the Green Assessment – Fee may increase for 2024, due to increased vendor cost, payable by the third Saturday in March. Further details at the January Alumni Meeting.

 

Green Light Recipients

The 2024 Green Light Recipients will come from Financial Alumni Members graduating in the 1960s, and 1980s. Potential Recipients must submit a full one-page typed bio with picture insertion and one-inch margin to the Alumni Office by the deadline below.

 

Life Membership

Life Membership is $500, which is a one-time payment. Members may pay in installments from the meeting after the Annual Prayer Breakfast until February of the following fiscal year. It is an honor to have your pledge of support for the Alumni Association. Your name will be published annually in the Scholarship Prayer Breakfast Program. A Life Membership Plaque will be presented at the Breakfast; you will also receive a Life Membership Card, Certificate and a copy of the current Constitution and By-Laws Handbook.

 

Mass Mailing

We prepare one annual mass mailing for each Turner Alumni for whom we have an address on file; we provide updates at our Alumni Meetings and through your Team Captains. (Updated List included.)

 

Scholarship Applications

Applications are provided each year to all Atlanta Public School System High Schools by a pre-established date. Life and Financial Alumni Members (Dues paid for two consecutive years to include the current year of application) with high school seniors attending other Metropolitan Atlanta Area High Schools are eligible to receive an application packet as well. All complete application packets must be postmarked by the established deadline as outlined in the cover letter. Call Dorothy Swann @ 404-799-5623, if you need a Scholarship Application Packet.

 

Scholarship Donations

Each Alumni Class (Class of 1953-1990) is expected to give at least $1,500.00 to the scholarship fund annually to support qualifying seniors from Metropolitan Atlanta Area High Schools. Individual donations to the Alumni and/or the Coach Leila Perry Glover Athletic Scholarship Funds should be made payable to “H. M. Turner High School National Alumni Association,” please indicate which scholarship in the memo area and submitted at our Alumni Meeting or mailed to the address below. A receipt will be sent acknowledging your gift. Thanks in advance for your donation.

 

Scroll of Remembrance

This is a continuous scroll honoring our beloved Turner Alumni and/or Former Staff Members. We encourage all Alumni, Former Staff, Family and Friends to memorialize their loved ones with a one-time contribution of $500.00 or more by the deadline below. The name of the person who has transitioned will be placed on the “Scroll of Remembrance” pages in the Scholarship Prayer Breakfast Program annually along with the contributor(s) name. A plaque will be presented to the contributor(s).

 

Special Note: We have set a deadline of Saturday, February 24, 2024, for all information and monies to be submitted to meet venue and vendor requirements unless otherwise stated. The success of our breakfast and picnic depends on each Alumni Class being current on all fees.
